Fordite- Detroit Agate

 

Fordite was created from build-up of different colored car enamels. Years ago, the painting process included spray techniques that resulted in large excess amounts of paint that gradually layered together.

Once these layered globs became large enough to get in the way of the factory line, they were scraped/broken off of the bars and skids they were hanging from. Fordite is often identified by the pant it came from, and the era in which it was created.
